More about Gonzalo Teppa:

Gonzalo Teppa began to study double bass at a very young age with Prof. Luis Guillermo Pérez at the Vicente Emilio Sojo Conservatory in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. In 1995, Gonzalo studied with Prof. Ludwig Streicher in Santander, Spain. Later, he graduated from the Simón Bolivar Conservatory in Caracas, Venezuela with Prof. Nestor Blanco. He joined “El Sistema” playing with the Simón Bolivar Orchestra of Venezuela with conductor Gustavo Dudamel. Mr. Teppa obtained

his Bachelor of Music at CU, Boulder with Prof. Paul Erhard, followed by his Master of Music in Jazz Studies with Professor Mark Simon. Teppa has performed with: Wynton Marsalis, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Matt Wilson, Ed Simon, Chris Potter, Tom Harrell, Ron Miles, Art Lande, Slide Hampton, Don Byron, Jeremy Pelt, Ben Goldberg, among others. Teppa won the “Honor Competition Award” at CU, Boulder. In 2004, 2005 and 2006 he won the “Best Jazz Soloist Award” from Downbeat Magazine. In 2014, Teppa was nominated with two Latin Grammys: “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album” and “Best Latin Jazz Album”, for his participation on the albums “Tiempo” by Linda Briceño; and “3rd Element” by Luis Quintero. Teppa has released five recordings: “Designios”, “Travesias”, “Serpentina", “CONtrabajos de Aldemaro” and “Sinergia”. Most recently, Teppa is promoting his new project “Gonzalo Teppa Quintet”. After winning the “Pathways to Jazz” Grant, Teppa was able to record his newest album titled “Away From Home” with all original compositions by the bassist.
